One of the main attractions of coming to Canada is discovering its amazing land and maybe consider settling in permanently. With its welcoming culture and abundant opportunities, it’s no wonder that Canada with its diverse provinces is one of the most-sought after destinations for people looking to make it their home! If you do decide to get a PR in Quebec, then you will need to make friends with CSQ or Quebec Selection Certificate.

What is CSQ?

It will be easy to think of CSQ as literally an invitation from Quebec to apply for Permanent residence in Canada. It’s a document that can be obtained on the basis of your french language proficiency, education, job offer, financial circumstances among other things.

The Key differences between CAQ and CSQ

As a newcomer, temporary foreign worker, transferee or current student that is looking to settle in Canada permanently, applying for CSQ is a must. Permanently is a key word here; be careful to not get confused with CSQ and CAQ. CSQ is if you intend to apply to stay permanently in Canada, while CAQ is Quebec’s Acceptance certificate which is needed if your intention is to move temporarily to Canada. The process to apply for CSQ is hence understandably different from the process to apply for CAQ.

Eligibility for CSQ

Depending on the immigration program, one can get the CSQ after submitting the required documents to move further in the process of getting PR in Quebec . Programs specifically for skilled workers include regular skilled worker program (RSWP) if you are skilled workers in Quebec or abroad; Quebec experience program (PEQ) is another program tailored for temporary foreign workers or international students who have graduated from Quebec.

Process to apply for CSQ

1. Determine Your Eligibility:

Before applying,  ensure you meet the eligibility for CSQ. Like mentioned before, factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability are the important selection basis.

2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI):

The first step is expressing your interest in moving to Quebec by submitting an EOI through the Arrima platform. This platform is the gateway that allows the Quebec government to select candidates who best meet the province’s economic needs.

3. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):

If your profile aligns with Quebec’s needs, you’ll receive an ITA to apply for a CSQ. This will bring you one step closer to realizing your dream of permanent residency.

4. Gather Required Documents:

Compile all necessary documents, including proof of identity, education credentials, work experience, language proficiency test results, and other supporting documents.

5. Submit Your CSQ Application:

Once you have all your documents in order, submit your CSQ application along with the required fees. It’s important to make sure the documents are complete and accurate in order to avoid delays or worse refusals.

6. Processing times for CSQ application

The processing time for a CSQ application varies. Most applications are processed within 6 months according to their website. There’s also the option to check the application online in case of any delays.
