Success Story: Relocate to Montreal

What a difference a year makes!

English born Julie Guyard and her French husband moved to Montreal in Autumn 2009 with their 3 bilingual children and two big challenges in front of them: to relocate their family and business to a new continent.

Changing continents is a big step and we wanted to be as sure as possible it was the right decision. Financing the move ourselves, we decided to invest in relocation assistance services: a worthwhile expense! We received our visas in record time, allowing us to get the boys enrolled at their school for the start of the new academic year in September.”

And what a year! Before setting-up her company, Julie took the first 2 months “off” to help her family settle-in. She was concerned about the children’s integration, but, as with many relocations, within a few weeks the children made new friends and were doing just fine in school. Her family being happily settled, Julie was able to focus on her business:

I quickly realized that I had a unique opportunity to choose the direction of my business: The “myth” about anything being possible in North America is true. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well!

This business attitude led her to the creation of a new venture called Design at Distance which is a new concept of very affordable interior design services, using the gift box format found in Europe.

Looking back it’s been a fantastic year, both for the family and for the business! Using relocation professionals helped us choose the city that suited us best, helped us to get settled-in sooner and allowed me to concentrate on my business and create design at distance… all in our first year! So, thanks Manon, you and your team did a great job!
