Montréal Museum of Fine Arts

Consider the grandeur, marvel at the spectacle, and prepare yourself to be amazed. Feast your eyes on the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts where a bounty of treasures and treats awaits you, when you open the massive front doors of the Desmarais pavilion.

First of all, you’ll be glad to know that access to the permanent collections is free for everyone.

Secondly, you may not realize it, but you are about to enter one of the largest, richest and most beautiful universal art collections in North America.

Just think about it: around thirty eight thousand items, among them paintings, engravings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, textiles, furniture, design, antique statues… Six millennia of art history, human ingenuity, and creative exploration are quietly awaiting your admiration in the tranquility of these rooms.

From the great European Masters (Mantegna, El Greco, Rembrandt, Dürer, Bruegel, Canaletto, Tiepolo, Veronese, Poussin, Goya, Sisley, Rodin, Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Dali to name but a few of them) to Greco-Roman and pre-columbian treasures, from African masks to Québec painters or contemporary design… It is simply impossible to come up with a complete must-see list.

Beyond its outstanding permanent collections, the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts always challenges its own creativity and eclecticism to compete with other international institutions when it comes to temporary expositions. Mixing enlightened humor, great fantasy and well documented museography, the MMFA recently dedicated fascinating retrospectives to Jean Paul Gautier, Tom Wesselmann and impressionist masterpieces from the Clark collection.

A Montréal landmark that must be seen. Open for free to everyone from Tuesday to Sunday (11 AM – 5 PM) Don’t miss it!
