It’s never easy for a new comer to find a house. I remember that when I moved here, I didn’t have a clue about the situation of real estate in Canada.
The first things you need to know when you want to find a house is to read the adverts. I know it may sound obvious, as in any other country in the world; real estate in Canada is a question of words. I explain myself: don’t judge a book by its cover!

Montreal has a lot to offer as far as real estate is concerned. However, the city can be a bit noisy if you want to live a family life.
Even though many areas of Montreal are pleasant, other districts of suburban Montreal can be even nicer.

When moving to Canada, one of your first preoccupations is going to be money!..And if you want to keep and save your money, you will need to open a bank account in Canada.
Whether you come from Europe, the USA, Africa or Asia; keeping your bank account in your country will soon become very costly. Indeed, if you want to avoid bank charges and other expensive fees, you will have to open a bank account in Canada as soon as you get all the needed papers.

When moving to Montreal or any other place in the world; one key thing you have to know if you want to feel at home, is the city. Of course, said this way, it sounds obvious. When I say: “know the city” I mean, knowing all the subtle aspects of it; for example: the real estate market.

As I already mentioned, Quebec might have different highway rules than the ones of your country.
Some might decide that they don't need a car as public transports are very convenient, but others might need a car for their work, personal life or just because they are used to driving and want to keep this habit.
According to your home country, regulations will apply, and you might be able to get a driver's license exhange.

Finding a place in Canada is not easy, well it’s not that hard but it can take time; until you find the PERFECT place, until you found a place that makes you feel at home.
Once you have visited 127 different places and you are just tired with taking the metro and then the bus to realize that, the landlord forgot to show up...you are almost ready to move in your new place.

When I want to buy something, I’m like a little kid: nothing can stop me; I want it, now, no matter what people tell me.
Of course, when the “thing” is a house, you have to be more careful. There are a few steps to follow before you buy the house you’re looking for.

Housing in Quebec is a bit special. When I say “special” I don’t mean weird or abnormal but it has codes. Coming from Europe, I first had a hard time understanding all the vocabulary of housing in Quebec. Once you know the codes, it gets much easier and you can start looking for a house.
